From Windows, go to: Start > Run
Type in: cmd (Vista users may also type cmd into the "Start Search" box if no "Run" option is available)
Type in the following: net localgroup Administrators /add Local service and press Enter.
Restart the computer and test the issue once more.
Start the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service
Please ensure that the DCOM Server Process Launcher service is started to correct this crash condition.
Go to the Start button and select Run...(for Windows Vista and Windows 7, you may click in the Search bar)
Enter services.msc and click OK
Locate the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service and right click on it to select its Properties
In the Startup type: drop-down menu ensure that Automatic is selected
Click Apply and then OK to save any changes
Repair the WMI
Warning
Re-registering the WMI may revert some of your Windows profile settings - ensure any important profile settings are properly backed up prior to making any changes to the WMI.
Windows XP - Re-registering the WMI components
Please exit Steam.
Go to the Start button and select Run...(for Windows Vista and Windows 7, you may click in the Search bar)
Enter cmd and click OK
When the command prompt window opens, type these commands, pressing Enter after each line:
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
for %i in (*.dll) do regsvr32 -s %i
for %i in (*.exe) do %i /regserver
After you have entered the last command, you may close the command prompt window, start Steam, and retest the issue.
If the issue continues, please complete these recommendations to continue repairing the WMI.
